We live with our three Dobermans, Molly, Cricket and Greeter, and one cat – Racquet -- in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, approximately 20 miles south of Denver proper, which is nestled at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Both of us have always had pet dogs. Neil had Collies for several years, and Sandi has had a Collie, Beagle, Rat Terrier and many Dachshunds. After we were married 25 years ago, we jointly owned Dachshunds. We lost our last Dachshund, Schautzie, at the age of 17-1/2 years, in 2000. We purchased our first Doberman seven-and-a-half years ago, and we’ve spent those years learning everything we can about the Doberman Pinscher. After learning all we could about the breed, and whether we were suited for the breed and could adjust our lives to fit, we knew it was the Doberman or nothing. We knew nothing about showing dogs, obedience, or any other dog events when we decided the Doberman was the breed for us. We were simply searching for a family pet. We now enjoy the conformation ring, obedience, rally and agility. We plan on dipping our toes into the possibility of herding and tracking. Whatever did we spend our time (and money!) doing before the dogs came into our lives? We have no idea, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our lives are dedicated to our Dobermans, whether they’re strutting in the conformation ring, challenging us in the obedience/rally ring or just working hard to prevent the family room couch from floating off into space. Each and every one of our dogs has a job, and each has his or her own distinct personality. We would like to thank our fellow members of the Doberman Pinscher Club of the Rocky Mountain Area for their help, education and support. Without our mentors in the club we would not have been able to accomplish what we’ve accomplished in the past seven years. We have learned an amazing amount of information from these valued friends, and the education continues. If it’s about the Doberman, we want to hear it. And we have special thanks for Julie Holmes, who helped us create this website to share our story and our dogs. Thank you, Julie – such a sweetheart.
