Merlin is my "Trial" dog -- anything I want to learn to do, I
try it with him first! Merlin is out of a litter produced by a
lovely girl we took in as a rescue in England. He and his two
brothers taught us all about bottle feeding, cleaning, mushy
puppy food, cleaning, the value of early housebreaking, cleaning
and the kind of love and pride that comes from sharing your home
with dober-babies.
Merlin has tolerated my many training mistakes and ring nerves
to become a wonderful, biddable dog that will do anything to
make anyone happy. With him I learned conformation, obedience
and now we are learning agility. He is the dog we bring out to
entertain when kids come to visit (he will do all his commands
for anyone with a treat regardless of age). He also is a
wonderful ambassador for the Doberman breed. We often laugh
that Merlin is our only dog with a waiting list if something
were to happen to us - everyone loves him.
As a conformation dog, he was shown by our good friend Kathryn
Kudron of Voyager Dogz
and was AKC pointed (he was also occasionally shown by Julie
when Kathryn wasn't around). He loves to show and we look
forward to trotting him around the veteran's ring someday. |
